Jonathan Nash

Exploring the physics linking internal waves, turbulence and mixing is key to our understanding the flow of energy through the global ocean system. We build unique instruments and undertake detailed field campaigns to study the dynamics of small-scale physical processes, and how these influence the ocean.

Marys Peak Real-time Observatory

The Marys Peak Observatory webcam was set up to provide a visualization of the beauty of natural fluid flows. Clouds trace these flows, providing an educational glimpse into fluid motions in our atmosphere. Time-lapse movies depicting different types of flows can be linked to this website. Ongoing research in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences examines the physics of flows like these in both the atmosphere and the ocean.

US GO-SHIP 2016 I08S

Welcome to the 2016 I08S Oceanographic Expedition. In this blog we will describe our oceanographic expedition from Western Australia down to the Antarctic and back again. Along the way we will be measuring ocean properties like temperature and salinity looking for signs of climate change. Here we hope not just tell you what we are up to, but to extend to you some measure of the excitement we feel as head out on this adventure into the Southern Ocean. Take a look in our next post.
